Talk Description
The Guyana basin has been an area of exploration success for Exxon and partners Hess and CNOOC with an estimated resource base of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent and 18 discoveries to date. First production began at the Liza I complex in late 2019 followed by Liza II startup in early 2022, with an additional 4-6 development areas to follow. Gas disposition remains a challenge for this project—estimated gas resources range from 8 to 15 TCF. Realizing the commercial value of the associated gas while mitigating the environmental impacts resulting from venting or flaring is a monumental challenge for the project with critical impacts on the country of Guyana and the global environment. The balance of these challenges will be discussed with respect to options for reservoir management and field developments.
