Black Elk Energy's safety systems are audited electronically

Friday, November 11, 2011

Black Elk Energy LLC of Houston reports that its safety and environmental management system (SEMS) has been audited electronically by the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

This is the first SEMS audit which has been done over the internet.

The audit evaluates the documentation, implementation and records evaluation protocol of Black Elk's Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance Department.

Black Elk combined its in-house solutions with solutions from SEMPCheck Services, a company which provides web based safety and environmental compliance management solutions to the energy industry.

Personnel from the BSEE, Black Elk and SEMPCheck participated in this inaugural virtual audit.

'The audit demonstrates our commitment to SEMS excellence as well as our philosophy of embracing technology," says John Hoffman, president and CEO of Black Elk Energy.

Black Elk uses a "SEMS-map" program from SEMPCheck, which can be used to keep track of persons onboard, incident investigations and management of change.
