One of the features of Super Basins is that they can be regenerated, ‘born again’, via enthusiasm, persistence, new technologies, new insights.

We have in the UKCS two Super Basins – in the North Sea and the West of Shetlands.

Our question is, have they reached their ‘glass ceiling’ or could:
• New ‘Total Petroleum Systems’ insights
and/or
• Exploitation of the ~400 or so ‘marginal discoveries’ in the UKCS
and/or
• Exploitation of the Kimmeridge Clay as an Unconventional resource

breath fresh life into these two hydrocarbon provinces?

And who is going to champion this regeneration?

David Bamford
