For those working in exploration or on energy policy, it is useful to have an understanding of the evolution of gas supply and demand over coming decades, according to the best available projections.

We have analysed a variety of gas demand scenarios, ranging from those assuming a slow energy transition, to those assuming a rapid energy transition. These can be compared with decline curves of gas supply based on knowledge of current reserves. Those working in the industry may not be surprised to learn that simply relying on current reserves will lead to a gap - gas supply being unlikely to keep up with demand, even under rapid energy transition scenarios. However, the size of the gap and how quickly it will expand may be surprising.

Therefore, there will need to be renewed focus on improving production profiles from existing fields and new gas exploration, both near-field or frontier. At the same time production needs to be 'advantaged' - economically resilient and with low carbon footprint of exploitation.

How this challenge will be met will be subject of future webinars. This webinar will help you develop a better understanding of the current macroeconomic situation.

Mike Simmons is Technology Fellow for Geosciences and Energy Transition at Halliburton, and formerly worked with BP, Cambridge and Aberdeen Universities, and Neftex
Andy Davies is Chief Geoscience Advisor at Landmark with Halliburton and formerly worked for Neftex.

Agenda

13:00 Mike Simmons - Halliburton Technology Fellow for Geosciences
Halliburton

My research interests encompass petroleum exploration workflows, especially integration with sequence stratigraphy; eustasy in the geological record; regional stratigraphy and petroleum geology, specifically the Middle East and Black Sea regions; applied biostratigraphy; and the history and future of geology. My career has spanned both industry and academia, working at BP, Aberdeen and Cambridge Universities, Neftex, and most recently Halliburton, where I am Technology Fellow for Geosciences and Exploration. I have a degree and PhD from the University of Plymouth and am a Visiting Professor at the University of London.
