The Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean is a fascinating petroleum province, surrounded on 3 sides by the US Gulf of Mexico, and Mexico’s and Venezuela’s mainly onshore riches.
And then in what we could call the outer island chain, Trinidad has a long history – from the early part of the 20th Century – of onshore oil exploration and production and major offshore gas production, Barbados has minor oil production onshore (~1000boepd if I remember rightly), and Jamaica and Cuba have ambitions to get exploration under way.
So a big area to contemplate with many petroleum systems.
Do we understand this complexity and is it possible to predict that are remaining unexplored, potentially prolific, plays and if so where are they?
Is there a regional theme or are these simply a set of unconnected country-based petroleum provinces sitting aroud one large basin?

David Bamford is well known around the oil & gas industry both as an explorer and a geophysicist. He holds a Physics degree from the University of Bristol and a Ph.D in Geological Sciences from the University of Birmingham.
Since 2004, he has been a non-executive director at Tullow Oil plc, being recruited for this position especially for his exploration knowledge. He serves on the Nominations and Remuneration Committees, and was chairman of the latter, and Senior Independent Director, for 3 years prior to his retire from the board at the end of April 2014.
He joined the board of Premier Oil in May 2014.
He retired from BP plc in 2003, his last four positions being Chief Geophysicist (1990-1995), Business Unit Leader (General Manager) for first West Africa and then Norway (1995-1999), and finally Head of Exploration until 2003.
He has served on the boards of Paras Ltd, a small exploration and IS/IT consulting company in which he held 22% equity, until its sale to RPS Energy in 2008 and Welltec a/s, a Danish well engineering company, as the nominee of the private equity investor Riverside.
From 2012 to 201 he was on the board of ASX-quoted Australia Oriental Energy as a non-executive director.
He was a founder of Richmond Energy Partners, a small oil & gas research house, and several media companies that focus on the oil & gas sector, and has served as an advisor to Alliance Bernstein, Opus Executive, the Parkmead Group plc, and Kimmeridge Energy LLP. Since retiring from BP, he has undertaken asset and company valuation projects for investment banks, hedge funds and small oil companies.

Previously Read was Upstream Executive Director and Board Member of Sierra Oil and Gas Mexico. Sierra created a preeminent position in the high potential offshore Sureste Basin having over 2.3MM acres. Sierra in 2017, drilled its first exploration well with the successful, multiple award winning Giant Zama Field discovery with over 1.7 bn bls OOIP. Sierra recently was sold to L1 Wintershall DEA. Zama was the Discovery of Year 2017. The Sale was the Deal of the Year 2018.
Previously Read was Senior EVP and Board Member of a Private Brazilian Energy, Mining and Renewables Group. Prior to that he served as General Manager of Devon Energy Brazil Ltd. Mr.Taylor has worked for energy industry notables UNOCAL and Anadarko in various international field locations in technical and commercial management positions. His background includes Business development, M&A, geophysics-geology, operations and development, gas marketing, and legal negotiations. He has successful experience in over 26 countries including Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Brazil, Egypt, Central and East Africa.
Mr. Taylor is Chairman and founder of RICE International Relief a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medicines and water purification to those in need around the world. RICE has been involved in global relief projects in Thailand,Myanmar,Kenya, Israel, Haiti, Philippines etc. RICE provides support to medical clinics and homeless shelters in USA including a facility in Corona Ca. with several partnering organizations.
Mr. Taylor has a B.Sc. in International Business from Pepperdine University, a B.Sc. in Geophysics and M.Sc. (Masters) degree in Geology from University of Southern California, USC. Mr. Taylor also hold a Diploma from Harvard Business School in Executive Management 2011.

Mr Ritson holds a Bachelor degree in Geophysics. He has worked in the energy sector for over 35 years’, initially with BP plc, where he held the roles of International Chief Geophysicist, Head of Geoscience Research and Business Unit Leader for both Norway and Alaska Exploration.
Subsequently Mr Ritson managed the international operations of Burlington Resources Inc. and more recently he was CEO at Regal Petroleum plc before founding the Vanguard Energy Group where he was Chairman and CEO.
Mr Ritson is the Chairman of Solo Oil plc, the Managing Director of NR Global Consulting Limited and a Director of Marylebone Consulting Limited. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Enovation Resources Limited, a Bermudan registered private company active in the UK North Sea.
