Full Agenda

Monday, October 28, 2019
London
The Geological Society

At our "Finding Oil in Central and South America" forum, Julian Bessa, VP Exploration, Echo Energy will give a talk on investing in Argentinian E&P. Echo is a mid-cap Latin American exploration company based in London, which announced on Monday last week a commitment to buy five mature producing blocks in the Austral Basin, Southern Argentina.

Lucía López Esquivelzeta, Senior consultant with Control Risks Group, will give an update of non technical risks for oil and gas operations in Mexico.

Neil Hodgson of TGS will speak about Argentina's second license round opportunities.

Jon Watson, geosciences exploration manager with Austin Bridgeporth, will talk about using non-seismic methods in exploration with case studies from onshore/offshore Mexico and onshore Colombia.

John Weston, technical director of Ulysses Petroleim Management, will talk about the E&P landscape in Brazil, with opportunities for companies from independents to super majors, including with Petrobras disposals.

People interested in environmental, social and governance issues for oil and gas companies have plenty to get their teeth into in Central and South America. As an example, the Economist reports that Ecuador just withdrew a decree eliminating fuel subsidies after "a fortnight of protests, rioting and looting". It also reports that in Bolivia, a reduction in gas revenues, the profits from which had been distributed to the poor, is a factor in giving Bolivian president Evo Morales his "toughest re-election battle yet" - since he was first elected in 2006. And the Operação Lava Jato criminal investigation into corruption at Petrobras, with allegations of awarding contracts to construction firms at inflated prices, continues.
