International Performance Assessment Centre for geologic storage of Carbon Dioxide
IPAC-CO2 Research Inc., the International Performance Assessment Centre for geologic storage of Carbon Dioxide, is an environmental, non-government organization (ENGO) created to fill a gap in the understanding and assessment of risk and performance in the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) chain.
Known as IPAC-CO2, the not-for-profit was established in 2009 with $14 million in funding from the Government of Saskatchewan, Shell Canada Ltd. and the Government of Canada through Western Economic Diversification. The University of Regina, with more than 20 years of experience in CCS, was also a founder and provided in kind support.
IPAC-CO2 has partnered with the Canadian Standards Association to develop the world's first standard for the geologic storage of carbon dioxide. The draft standard now is being reviewed by a panel of almost three dozen experts from academia, industry, NGOs and government regulators from both Canada and the United States.
IPAC-CO2 assembled a team of international experts to conduct an independent study of events at the Kerr farm, about 170 kilometres southeast of Regina, Saskatchewan.
