Future gas demand is something all subsurface energy professionals would benefit from a better understanding of. In this webinar, two energy experts will share their perspective.

We will hear from Norrie Stanley, major risk reviewer, Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and Co-founder of RPS Energy gas commercial practice, former Senior VP Commercial Upstream and Gas, Power and Renewables, BP; and Jon Suller, owner, EPD Energy Ltd, former Director of Capability, E&P Commercial with BP.

Future gas demand has multiple components. It is linked to overall energy demand, since gas will be a big component under all scenarios to 2050. Gas demand is also driven by the growth in electricity consumption and decline in the use of coal, and filling the intermittency gap in renewable generation. Gas will also be used to make blue hydrogen.

A growth in heat pumps will mean less demand for gas for heating, but higher electricity demand, which will itself require more gas. Hydrogen may ultimately displace some gas markets, but the future hydrogen supply will be partly made from gas.

The role of hydrogen as an energy carrier will be constrained by the substantial energy losses in the chain.

Pace is important. The rate of implementation of renewables, electricity grid build-out, displacement of coal, heatpumps, and decarbonising industry will drive gas demand to 2050.

Gas in the energy transition

An experienced Oil & Gas Commercial Business manager with a track record of innovation and delivery.

Geological and Reservoir Engineering background focusing on development appraisal and unitisation of major US and UK fields. Subsequent commercial roles in economic evaluation, risk modeling, deal negotiation and contract development. Ultimately responsible for globally managing E&P commercial capability and transforming the commercial training offer.

EPD (Energy) Ltd working with ex BP and Shell senior executives to provide commercial training to the E&P business, governments and academia.

EPD courses offer a distinctive approach to training by focusing on the underlying commercial “why” questions in commercial contracts from access to gas sales. Learning is enabled throughout the courses by use of a case study in which participants explore the counterpoint view of the parties involved.

EPD Energy
EPD specialises in development and delivery of commercial training focussing on gas and renewables industries. Delegates are continuously engaged through: active questioning; developing and applying frameworks to understand and manage complexity; and lastly by applying the learning in integrated case studies which run throughout the course.

Course feedback is consistently outstanding - "best commercial training I have ever taken", "learnt by applying ideas in actual business case".
