Petroleum Geology of West Africa

One day training course 0

Wednesday, November 12, 2014, London, The Geological Society

The course reviews the key regional controls on petroleum systems and prospectivity across the West African continental margin, covering all onshore, shelfal and deepwater settings between South Africa and Morocco.

Particular emphasis is given to the regional controls on deepwater plays, such as the controls on development of different pre-salt reservoir facies, the development and maturity of pre- and post-salt source rocks, the impact of hinterland tectonics on sediment supply and the controls on reservoir quality in deepwater sands.

Discussions are centred on palaeogeographic and palaeotectonic maps, chronostrat diagrams and play cross-sections across the region, all of which are provided in digital form, while learnings are reinforced by short exercises.

The course is pitched at the level of a young geoscientist who might be commencing work in this region but also provides a suitable overview for an older geoscientist focussed on specific licences who required a regional overview. It is also suitable for all those involved in analysing and promoting opportunities in the region.
