Explore onshore Southern Africa - not just deep, deep, water!

.......will help mitigate 'energy poverty' more than more and more dep water! 0

Friday, February 9, 2024, Webinar, Online

It's very exciting to contemplate the reemergence of offshore oil & gas, especially deep water, with momentous decisions to be taken in corporate offices in Houston, London, Stavanger, Paris etc, as enthusiastically greeted here:
but I'm not sure that solving 'energy poverty' in Africa by supplying gas to needy domestic markets sits at the top of the Majors' priorities - I hope they will prove me wrong!

Maybe onshore E&P in Sub-Saharan Africa offers a way forward, and this will be the focus of our two Sub-Saharan webinars during 1H 2024.

This is the 1st of them and it focuses on southern Africa onshore, especially Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, perhaps Zambia, with companies such as ReCon Africa, Monitor Exploration, Invictus Energy active:

I hope Robin Sutherland, an ex-colleague from the heyday of Tullow Oil, will have a good story to tell……

Karl Jeffery - editor - Finding Petroleum

He has held a variety of technical and leadership roles in African businesses, joining the highly respected Energy Africa team in Cape Town in 1997, prior to the transformational discoveries in Equatorial Guinea, and leading Tullow’s exploration team through the discovery and appraisal of the Jubilee and TEN fields in Ghana before becoming Tullow’s exploration GM for the continent in 2015.

Robin joined the Monitor team as a senior adviser in 2021 and has since contributed significantly to the company’s strategy, business plan and technical understanding.

Monitor Exploration Ltd
Monitor Exploration Limited (MEL) is a UK private exploration company, established in 2008, for onshore Oil and Gas exploration in Africa. MEL was formed by Geodynamics WorldWide (GWW), a specialist oil service company. MEL was created to take advantage of:

Direct access to geophysical technologies, managed and operated by GWW and its partners (Airbus Defence, E&P Geofield), that reduce risk, time and cost to identify hydrocarbons directly and provide reconnaissance structural imaging:
Remote Sensing
Passive Seismic
Surface Geochem

Sedimentary basins in Africa that are relatively under explored but prospective geologically and where our partners have past experience in terms of geological and geophysical data.

Countries that are prepared to offer attractive PSA terms, and most importantly are not restrictive or onerous on work programmes, at least in the initial phase, and allow the Oil company the option, as opposed to the obligation, to go to the next phase of commitments to drilling wells

Lack of competition from independent companies for onshore licences, due to lack of capital and practice in alternative technologies

Scope to obtain substantial initial interests in licenses, e.g. over 70%, whilst keeping some local interest to assist in managing local
