The course will look at the elements which are required for the successful implementation and maintenance of information management services. We will start with discussing the definition of data, information and knowledge and go on to discuss the 8 elements required to keep an information management service running smoothly. The course will finish with a discussion on the meaning of "big data" and analytics in the industry and the opportunities this will provide for the data scientists.

Your trainer

Alan Smith is a geophysicist by background. Now providing Information systems strategy and planning to the E&P industry. Work includes Data Management, Information Management, Knowledge Management, Business process analysis, system selection and implementation management, project and programme management.

Specialties: Expert knowledge of E&P industry systems and processes, Interim management roles undertaken as IS Manager / Departmental CIO in E&P organisations

Has held interim management position as head of IS at GDF Suez E&P UK Ltd.

From 1980 to 1993 worked as a geophysicist with BP, in London, Hamburg, Algiers, Jakarta, Aberdeen, London (again), Glasgow. Responsible for assimilation of data from many sources to provide recommendations on exploration and development decisions. Supervision of seismic data acquisition and processing projects. Latterly responsible for selecting and implementing integrated interpretation systems

Has a Phd in geophysics from University of London
