- From “Dad” Joiner (who discovered the East Texas field in the 1930s) to thermal imaging
- A range of scientific methods which can theoretically be used to search for petroleum deposits
- Commercial exploration tools built on these scientific methods – and how these tools are currently being applied
- Possible lessons for improving the currently low rate of discovered volumes
