Spectrum multi-client survey offshore Namibia

Thursday, January 19, 2012 in Exploration / Seismic

Seismic survey company Spectrum reports that it has started doing a 2D multi-client seismic survey in the deepwater Orange Basin, offshore Namibia (West Africa).

The survey is in partnership with CGGVeritas and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR).

It includes acquisition of 7,000 km of long offset data covering both held and open blocks in the Orange Basin.

Spectrum has signed up "a good level of prefunding" from oil and gas companies for the survey, it says.

The actual survey is being done by Seabird Exploration using its vessel "Northern Explorer," which has worked in Namibia before.

The data will be processed through full pre-stack time migration and include angle stacks and AVO products.

Spectrum will also be offering a 'Fast Model' Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) sequence.

Final deliverables are expected to be available in June 2012.

Offshore Nambia is not extensively explored. There is a sea area of over 500,000km2, and only 15 wells have been drilled so far, and 7 of these are in one field (Kudu gas field). The first exploration well was drilled in 1973.

Spectrum also has 20,000km2 of 2D multi client data of offshore Nambia available from 8 previous surveys.
