Schlumberger and EMGS collaborate on electromagnetics

Friday, December 16, 2011 in Exploration / Seismic

Schlumberger and electromagnetic survey company EMGS have announced a 'co-operative agreement' starting in 2012, for the two companies to work together in electromagnetic data processing, advanced modelling and earth model building.

The agreement follows a patent dispute between the two companies, where Schlumberger sought to invalidate two of EMGS' patents, which was resolved in July 2010.

Schlumberger and EMGS have further entered into a cross-licence of patents relevant to the CSEM (controlled source electromagnetic) acquisition business.

"We look forward to building on both companies' strengths and are hopeful that this agreement will enhance the adoption of EM technology," says Roar Bekker, EMGS chief executive officer.

"Our combined service offerings will provide the oil and gas industry with improved integration capabilities and accelerate the growing portfolio of EM applications."
