SPT Group launches 'next generation' of MEPO reservoir optimisation software,

Friday, December 09, 2011

SPT Group of Oslo, Norway, has launched version 4 of its MEPO reservoir optimisation software, used to optimise reservoir flow models.

The software tool can be used to help manage uncertainty, optimise well location and do history matching (comparing what the simulator thinks should happen with what actually happened).

The software is the first model that the oil and gas industry has had, for optimising reservoirs 'rigorously' when there is uncertainty, SPT claims.

"Removing uncertainty is not possible, but MEPO now enables geoscientists and reservoir engineers to understand and manage it better, to optimise development plans, drainage strategies and well targets even, with imperfect information," SPT says.

The new software has a field management library making it easier for engineers to optimise plateau length, well locations, well scheduling and production strategies, SPT says.
