Paradigm - compute seismic attributes faster using new microchips

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Oil and gas software company Paradigm has made it possible to compute seismic trace attributes faster, with the second update release of its Paradigm 2011 application suite.

The new software is designed to run on computers with NVIDIA graphical processing units (GPUs).

It runs on the NVIDIA Maximus technology, so the processing can simultaneously run on NVIDIA Quadro GPUs, which are good for visualisation, and NVIDIA Tesla GPUs, which provide high performance computing power.

"Paradigm actively seeks to take advantage of new hardware technologies, such as NVIDIA Maximus technology, to improve our customers' performance and efficiency," said Laura Evins, product manager of seismic attributes at Paradigm.

"By significantly accelerating the calculation of seismic trace attributes, interpreters can evaluate new workflows and practices to gain more from their seismic data investment."
