Kongsberg offshore vessel simulator opens in Haugesund

Friday, February 17, 2012 in Automation

Kongsberg Maritime has opened its offshore vessel simulator at the 1300 m2 "SimSea" simulator park in Haugesund, Norway.

Kongsberg says that it is "one of the most" advanced offshore vessel simulators in the world.

It offers training for entire crews and operators, and mission planning training.

The SimSea centre was opened by Olav Akselsen, Director General of Shipping and Navigation at the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, on February 9.

60 guests were gathered for the opening ceremony; among them many shipowners from the maritime cluster of Haugalandet, a maritime and offshore area of Norway.

The Kongsberg simulator has a 360 degree display and can be used for training in dynamic positioning, anchor handling, aft bridge, forward bridge navigation, offshore loading, tandem and buoy; ROV, ECDIS (electronic chart) and BRM (bridge resource management).

There is a second offshore vessel simulator that can be used for training for a 2nd anchor handling vessel, with the two vessels working simultaneously
