First rigless electrical submersible pump installed in Middle East

Friday, February 03, 2012 in Automation

Artificial Lift Company of Houston has installed a rigless electrical submersible pump in a Saudi Aramco well.

The company claims that this is the first ever rigless electrical submersible pump to be installed in the Middle East.

The pump is 134 horsepower and can pump 6,000 barrels of oil per day. It was installed at 6,119 feet depth.

The system also includes the Artificial Lift Company Permanent Magnet Motors and Wet Connect system. There is a downhole ESP gauge, packer, and subsurface safety valve assemblies.

The pump is called "rigless" because you do not need a drilling rig to retrieve it.
