150 mbps wireless communications in Gulf of Mexico

Louisiana oil and gas communications company Data Technology Solutions has launched the "Advanced Wireless Network" providing up to 150 mbps wireless data communications in 6 oil producing basins in the US, including in the Gulf of Mexico.
The service is available for production facilities, vessels and drilling sites.
The data is carried from the user to a backbone station by a range of radio communications systems (with redundant radio systems available). At the backbone station, the data is transferred onto fibre.
"The combination of high bandwidth and low latency allows Citrix, and other computer applications which do not tolerate network delays, to operate flawlessly," the company says.
The rig antenna can be attached directly to a drilling rig derrick, with no need for a portable mast.
"Our energy customers are now demanding 10 to 100 times the bandwidth they have in the past," says DTS president Mike Guidroz. "A connection that delivers both high bandwidth and low latency is essential to a good user experience."
