There have been big advances in technology to better understand reservoirs in production. Advances in 4D seismic surveying, advances in seismic processing to get more information about the physical properties, better ways to integrate other survey techniques such as electromagnetics and gravity, surveying on the seabed and oil wells, and understanding well interference patterns. These are all part of the geologists' and geophysicists' tool kits.

Meanwhile, reservoir engineers have delivered big improvements in recovery in many reservoirs - but some geophysicsts and geologists question whether they incorporate all of the available data into their reservoir models, including data which may be outside their competence (such as rock physical properties and fractures); so whether the reservoir models might be improved.

Also, whether there is enough transparency and collaboration in how the oil company maintains its understanding of the reservoir, or it is limited to the domain of a small group of specialists.

An oil company's understanding of the reservoir could barely be more important, impacting on the estimate of the reserves size (and the value of the company), calculations about topsides capacity, predictions of future production, and the viability of getting a smaller reservoir in production. At this forum, we'll explore how it might be improved.

Note - we explored these ideas in depth in our Dec 2017 issue of Petromall Insights which you can download here

Opportunities in mature provinces

Wednesday, February 21, 2018, London

Mature Provinces like the North Sea can offer significant opportunities for innovative companies in a low oil or gas price world - much infrastructure has already been built and the location of the great majority of resources/reserves is known.
