Friday, June 5, 2015, London, The Geological Society

Our event on June 5 was a half day of expertise sharing and discussion about where the oil and gas industry is going in the current oil price environment - and new ideas for improving your business and personal viability.

Introduction from conference chairman David Bamford

Can we get Costs (way) down? Is it time for CRITE (Cost Reduction In This Era)?

  1. Are there new, better cost/barrel, development technologies?
  2. Can Standardisation deliver 10’s of % cost reduction?
  3. What about Automation/Remote Control?
  4. and is it time for a more outsourced work force?

Is this the way to re-charge Mature Provinces, for example the UKCS; NOCS; much of South East Asia?

Simon Bates - Project Advisor and Manager - The DDC Group

“Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO)”

Talk Description.
“Who Else Wants A Flexible Graduate Resource, On Tap When Needed?”

Simon will offer a true story of a well-known upstream services company, who adopted KPO as a service around bit run data, with guaranteed business benefits and reduced process costs. He will describe an outsourcing journey, explaining how KPO adoption is successfully achieved in six proven steps. And, answer the question “Why outsource?”

Simon guides clients and colleagues towards successful Knowledge Process Outsourcing services provided by The DDC Group. DDC is a BPO specialist helping businesses across numerous disciplines improve access to the data they rely on through large-scale, bespoke document and data conversions. Simon’s former employers include Lason and Saztec (R.I.P.). He has 25 years' experience working with the wonderful people of the Philippines.

The DDC Group
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) began as the separation of back office processes, such as bill entry, document imaging, data processing and database management, from companies and assigning those activities to highly skilled, specialized direct data capture teams. Today, BPO is a strategic decision to empower an organization's operational structure, adding significant value to the back office, deeming it a key player for the future of the overall health and success of the business.

BPO experts at The DDC Group are craftsmen at selecting, tailoring and combining specific services from our list of back office capabilities custom-design solutions that guarantee effective, immediate results that exceed the expectations for all of our clientele, regardless of industry, organizational structure, location or language.

Most BPO vendors use primitive imaging components to scan and organize documents to then be placed before an entry operator, but this only increases reliance on the manual key routine most back offices are hoping to eradicate.
The DDC Group is re-inventing OCR and its associated services.

We leverage intelligent scanning, capture, hosting and validation technologies that go beyond elementary processing by removing manual data entry from the equation entirely. By combining the newest innovations on the market with our decades of experience and global reach, we equip you with strategic, knowledge-intensive solutions that deliver long-term health and profitability for the future of your organization.

Mark Enfield - Managing Director - PDF

The Outsourced Exploration Department (OExD)

Talk Description.
Mark will discuss how PDF has built an innovative Outsourced Exploration Department® (OExD®) model that provides strategic partnerships with oil/gas exploration companies to help them expand or develop through transformative events, building upon a solid foundation of geoscience expertise. These strategic partnerships are an outsourcing of the core exploration function of smaller and growing exploration companies under an innovative outsourcing contract model. Outsourcing exploration is a ‘third way’ in resourcing the exploration companies’ technical and project management requirements – and varies in significant aspects from the more traditional models of building a team of in-house staff or relying on hiring consultants. He will discuss how the Outsourced Exploration Department® approach brings significant benefits and provides growing companies with a ready-made, scalable and full spectrum exploration department that allows capacity to drive growth. He will show how the OExD® approach brings not just cost-effectiveness, but also fully integrated and focused technical expertise and the best aspects of exploration management, flexibility to scale resource allocation in line with evolving corporate needs and a highly loyal and aligned team that through the long-term nature of the OExD® relationship safeguards corporate memory and data.
Mark is Managing Director of P.D.F. Limited, a successful exploration consultancy with a >20 year track record in helping E&P companies succeed in exploration, operations, new ventures and corporate development. PDF are currently highly active in Africa and Central/Eastern Europe.

Mark is an experienced explorationist and has a PhD in structural geology from Imperial College, London, UK. He started in the oil industry with Maxus Energy, firstly in London and then in Dallas, Texas where he worked on global New Ventures, exploration & operations and development projects. Mark founded PDF as an exploration consultancy in 1994 and since then has worked extensively on projects in Africa, Central & Eastern Europe, the North Sea, Indian sub-continent, Madagascar, South American fold thrust belts and the near East, as well as ‘unconventional’ projects in several continents.

Mark is also proud to be a PESGB Young Professionals mentor.

PDF
PDF is based in South Oxfordshire, UK and is organised as a full spectrum exploration department, assisting its clients with their exploration / operatorship / new ventures / portfolio management and corporate development needs. PDF has a twin-track approach, operating as the Outsourced Exploration Department® (OExD®) under strategic partnership agreements for particular companies and also working on specific specialist projects for clients in a more traditional consultancy role - especially in areas of its particular specialisations: regional assessments, play fairway analysis, fold-thrust belt exploration / interpretation of tectonically complex areas & difficult data sets, sequence stratigraphy & sedimentology, thermal maturity & charge modelling and assessment of continuous resource plays.
